Nottingham Insight Meditation meets every Tuesday at the Bahia Yoga studio in Nottingham.
We are a small and friendly group and all are welcome. Jake Dartington leads the sessions and teaches within the Vipassana (Insight Meditation) tradition as taught at Gaia House in Devon. This approach is rooted in Theravada Buddhist tradition but is open to other sources of inspiration from other forms of Buddhism and other traditions.
if you’d like to come or have some more questions, please email us using the contact form below.
You can get a sense of the teaching from this video.
The Bahia Yoga studio in Hockley, Nottingham, is also home to our Insight Meditation group and the courses run by Nottingham Mindfulness. We moved to this new study earlier this year. This video tells the story of our move to our new place.
Ever wanted to attend a day long or week long retreat without having to travel away from the city? Still in the city is an urban yoga and meditation retreat running in Nottingham led by Jake Dartington and Jasmin Bahia. This unique 5 day retreat runs from Monday 22nd July right through to Friday July 26th, you have the option to attend the full 5 days or simply attend one or two days. The day long retreat runs 10am to 4.30pm and will begin with a 60 minute Yoga class, followed by meditation and walking meditation. There will be a one hour lunch slotted in. The urban yoga and meditation retreat has sprung up as both teachers (Jake and Jasmin) are often away attending various retreats and practises with their own teachers, they have decided to take some time to create their own retreat environment within the city of Nottingham and invite you to join them.

Sheffield is only about an hour away from Nottingham by train and there is a thriving Insight Meditation group there. They’ve organised a weekend with Catherine McGee who is a well respected teacher from Gaia House. The weekend runs on March 9th and 10th. All the details are on the Sheffield Insight Website.
I very much enjoyed teaching the Path of Joy retreat for Nottingham Insight Meditation. We explored sitting and walking meditation as well as some mindful movement. We reflected on various aspects of joy as understood in the Buddhist tradition. A good range of people came to the retreat including mindfulness teachers, university students, people who’d travelled from Yorkshire and those based more locally.
Here’s the talk from the day.
There are only a couple of places left on the retreat. If you haven’t already booked please contact us directly to check that there is still space available.
Here are some further details to help the day go smoothly.
Registration – please arrive from 9.30 to register. The silence begins at 10.00 so this gives us some time to sort out any practicalities before the day starts. The silence will end around 4pm and there will be a chance to talk with each other over tea before the day ends at 4.30pm
Meditation cushions/mats – there are yoga blocks, bolsters and blankets at the centre as well as a few chairs to sit on. If you have your own meditation cushion or mat please bring this too.
Lunch – please bring vegetarian food to share. It’s helpful to bring something that doesn’t need any further preparation so we can have a simple buffet lunch.
Warm clothes – the centre does have central heating but, as a fairly large room, can take time to warm up. Please bring a few layers to make sure you are warm enough during the day.
Help during the day – these days run more smoothly when people help out with a few of the jobs needed – e.g. washing up after lunch, tidying at the end of the day. We will have a sign-up sheet available when you register.
Parking – Although the centre is on Noel Street, the only vehicle access is via Mosley St or Rawson St. It’s best to park on Mosley St but there are also some spaces on Elston St. We are directly opposite the Nottingham Climbing Centre.
Tram – the nearest tram stop is Beaconsfield St
Dana – the payment you made for the retreat just covers the basic cost of renting the space and setting up the website. There will be the opportunity to offer dana to the teacher at the end of the day.

I’m very happy to be teaching a new Yoga and Meditation course in Nottingham. It runs on Monday evenings and is organised by Bahia Yoga. Heather Kelly will lead the Yoga and I will teach meditation using some themes inspired by Jack Kornfield’s Path With Heart.
